BS EN 60598-1 Luminaire Standard Explained - 1 day

Offering an in-depth understanding of the requirements of BS EN 60598.

This course aims to provide delegates with an understanding of the full requirements of BS EN 60598-1 standard which specifies essential requirements for all types of electrical luminaires in domestic, industrial and OEM markets.

As the main reference document for luminaire compliance, which is also used to support manufacturers’ declaration for LVD conformity, a working knowledge of the standard is invaluable.

This training course was recently updated, following the introduction of edition 9 of BS EN 60598-1 and helps manufacturers understand the critical changes from edition 8.

What is this standard about?

BS EN 60598-1:2015 specifies general requirements of safety for luminaires that incorporate electric light sources for operation from supply voltages of up to 1,000 V. The requirements and related tests of this standard cover: classification, marking, mechanical construction, electrical construction and photobiological safety.

It supplies a set of requirements and tests that are considered to be generally applicable to most types of luminaires.

It’s meant to be used in conjunction with the family of BS EN 60598-2-X standards, each of which was written to tailor the general requirements for use with specific types of luminaires.

Who is this standard for?

Anyone with an interest in the safety of luminaires. This includes:
  • Test houses
  • Manufacturers
  • Specifiers
  • Designers/architects
  • Building safety inspectors
  • Regulators
  • Health and safety managers, consultants and inspectorates
